Bring Splendour home

Friday, October 15, 2010

This morning I was bored, so bored I found myself flicking through the Byron Shire News. Something however caught my eye that sparked a flicker of memories. It was a notice from the North Byron Parklands in regards to bringing ‘Splendour in the Grass’ arts and music festival back to the humble area that founded it.

The music memories I hold aren’t just festival highlights from the likes of Bloc Party, Moby or The Presets, but completed by the display we got to put on.

The last time Splendour was in Byron (2009), in true ‘bender’ style LaLa Land boasted 6 consecutive nights. Cool heads everywhere, no negativity and the right music at the right time. Bagraiders went down a treat; The Midnight Juggernauts put out one of the most relevant disco themed sets we'd seen, Van She Tech joined Dangerous Dan on the Saturday. Friendly Fires finished off the weekend with a very classy and appropriate tech-house set, right on the money for post-festival punters. Having never traded on a Splendour Monday before, we thought that we would throw an after party with Architecture In Helsinki for crew to talk story and evade the inevitable return to reality. This ideological little plan changed with the Yacht Club DJ's hopping on and whipping the solid crowd into a frenzy that tore the place to bits.

If you’ve landed on this page I’m probably preaching to the choir when I tell you how good an event it is, or that fact that it could inject 192.6 million bones into the local economy + 210 full time jobs. It’s a no brainer we want our Splendour back so show your support by signing the petition here (www.bringsplendourhome.com).

Alternatively, if you feel really passionate and have a little more time on your hands you can make a more personalised submission at www.northbyronshireparklands.com/submission.html

Over and out,

Top Gun Crew
